VISIT BORA BORA ?
Bora Bora
Bora Bora is a small South Pacific island northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia. Surrounded by sand-fringed motus (islets) and a turquoise lagoon protected by a coral reef, it is known for its scuba diving and snorkeling. At the island’s center rises Mt. Otemanu, a 727m dormant volcano.
Island groups: Society Islands & Leeward Islands
Official language: French is spoken in Bora Bora
Main city : Vaitape is the most important city of Bora Bora
Festivity
June-July: The Heiva i Bora Bora. Each year, as in all of Polynesia, the Tiurai festivals are celebrated, which take place in parallel with the Heiva of Papeete: presentations of traditional dances and arts and the inevitable «barracks» where you can sit and eat by the sea.
Late October – early November: The Hawaiki Nui Va’a, the traditionnel canoe race. It is a 3 days race, starts in Huahine Island and finishes in Bora Bora.
Weather
The presence of the trade winds and the ocean allows the climate of Bora Bora to be relatively temperate.
Two seasons are distinguished in Bora Bora and Polynesia: the southern winter, which corresponds to the dry season, from April to October, and the rainy season, from November to March, with abundant and regular precipitation accompanied by often violent winds.
It is in July-August that the temperatures are the most «cool» (between 24 and 28 degrees) in Bora Bora.
Things to do
Enjoy your stay in Bora Bora for:
- drive or cycle around the island
- visit archaeological sites
- explore the north of Bora Bora, still quite wild
- climb Mount Pahia
- discover the lagoon of Bora Bora
- dive with a mask and snorkel in the Coral Garden
- discover marine biodiversity (sharks, rays, etc.)
How to get there
The best way to get to Bora Bora is via Tahiti: Bora Bora is connected 8 to 11 times a day to Papeete in 50 minutes flight.
